Thermal Detection

  • What is thermal detection?

Thermal detection is an advanced way to measure infrared energy (heat). The non-contact thermal detectors we sell are created to measure a person’s surface skin temperature. Unlike other temperature scanners, infrared thermal detectors allow temperatures to be read quicker while maintaining a physical distance.

  • How does thermal detection work?

Dr. Irene Tsai, Biomedical Engineer, has joined Dr. Yates' team to research, validate, and confirm applications for non-contact infrared thermal detection in devices used to detect a fever. Listen to Dr. Irene Tsai explain infrared thermal detection in this video made for Yates Protect:

Dr. Irene Tsai explains infrared thermal detection

  • What is the difference between non-contact infrared and contact thermometers?

One of the main differences is in the name- infrared detectors allow for a person’s temperature to be read without physical contact, while contact thermometers are most commonly taken by oral, rectal, or underarm readings. Non-contact infrared thermometers are becoming the gold standard as they’ve proven to be just as accurate, provide quicker readings, and help prevent the spread of germs by being non-contact.

  • Why temperature screen for COVID-19?

A fever is the most common symptom of COVID-19 and a Study by The University

of Southern California revealed a fever is typically the first symptom to appear in

symptomatic cases. Approximately 30-40% of Covid cases are asymptomatic, meaning they don’t show any symptoms at all. Temperature screening is just one of the many measures that should be put in place to keep an environment healthy during and after the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • How to temperature screen for COVID-19?

In order for the reading to be accurate, it is critical that the screening is done properly. All of our temperature devices are intended for indoor use. Because environmental factors can adjust surface skin temperature, it is important to wait approximately 15 minutes after entering from outside, or about 30 minutes after exercising before screening to allow for a person’s surface skin temperature to return to its normal temperature.

Depending on the device, the temperature can be detected from 1 inch to 3 feet away and the person being screened should remain still until the reading is given.

According to various health officials, a fever is recognized as 100.4 degrees or higher. If a person has a fever, they should be sent home as a fever is a sign of an infection that may or may not need to be addressed with medical attention.

  • Will temperature screening end?

Temperature screening has been performed in healthcare clinics for years, and with the COVID-19 outbreak, it has gained popularity in workplaces and schools in order to help mitigate the spread of the virus. While it is beyond us to know if temperature screening will continue to be a prominent measure in many industries, we believe it should be an essential tool for any business or school to stay prepared and keep their employees and students healthy.

  • Is temperature screening effective?

Temperature screening is extremely effective at preventing people with fevers from entering a facility, which in return can help slow the spread of illness. There are many other factors that should be considered when maintaining a safe environment, such as EPA listed disinfectant, air purification, hand washing and sanitizing, and face masks.

Facial Recognition

  • What is facial recognition?

Our Y-Q5 and Y-Q9 contactless temperature scanners are multi-functional and have the ability to detect facial features of an individual when reading their temperature or determining if they are wearing a face mask.

Facial recognition is produced by using a computer algorithm to detect a person’s facial features.

  • Is facial recognition secure?

The facial recognition our systems use is very secure and the algorithm is run locally. There is no additional information generated about a person other than their temperature.

  • Can facial recognition work with a mask?

Yes. In fact, our facial recognition units have the capability to detect if a person is wearing a mask. If the person being scanned is not wearing a mask it will ask them to put one on. This is an optional function.

Air Purification

  • What is air ionization?

As air passes over the Jackson Control ion blocks, millions of positively and negatively charged ions are formed – just like in nature. These bipolar ions disperse into the occupied space through the duct system, proactively attacking airborne contaminants where they cause the most problems for occupants.

The negative ions contain an extra electron while the positive ions are missing an electron resulting in an unstable condition. In an effort to re-stabilize, these bipolar ions seek out atoms and molecules in the air to trade electrons with, effectively neutralizing particulate matter, bacteria and virus cells, odorous gases and aerosols, and VOCs

  • Is air ionization safe?

Yes! The Air Ionization blocks we offer are extremely safe and do not emit ozone. They have been tested and certified UL 2998 (emits zero ozone) and UL 867 (does not emit ozone over acceptable levels).

The Ion Blocks are ETL certified, meeting all UL certification standards. UL and ETL are both what are called Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL). NRTLs are in place to provide independent safety and quality certifications on products. UL develops the testing standards and tests to them. ETL tests to UL standards and has the same recognition by OHSA since they are both Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories. Inspectors, code officials, and Authorities having jurisdiction recognize and accept the ETL Mark as proof of product compliance throughout North America as well as other parts of the world.

  • How to measure air ionization?

It can be hard to believe that something is working when you can’t see it. Thankfully, the testing and research has been done for you and a high-tech ion meter is used to show the difference. See how Jackson Control tests for negatively charged air in this video: Bus Ion Meter Testing

  • Can UV disinfect Air?

Yes! Just like it can treat water and surfaces, powerful UV-C rays can also disinfect the air. UV-C rays have been used for years to treat and inactivate pathogens. With the UV Angel Air, air is circulated through the UV-C air chamber where it is treated with an enclosed high intensity UV-C light to inactivate bacteria, fungus and viruses in the air.

  • Is UV disinfection safe?

The UV Angel uses years of advanced research and development in ultraviolet light to make the environments around us measurably cleaner and safer by eliminating harmful pathogens. Fully automated, patented and proven safe, its UV-C technology monitors and cleans the surfaces we touch and the air we breathe, all while being unobtrusive with an in ceiling design.

Metal Detection

  • Is it safe to walk-through a metal detector?

All of our metal detectors are harmless to the human body. They Generate low-intensity magnetic fields that are harmless to people with pacemakers, pregnant women, magnetic storage devices, or recording tapes.

Disinfectant

  • What does it mean for Disinfectant to be EPA listed?

When a product is listed on the EPA’s List N, the EPA expects it is a product that can kill the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) when used according to the label directions. A product can be put on this list when they:

    • Demonstrate efficacy against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19);
    • Demonstrate efficacy against a pathogen that is harder to kill than SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19); or
    • Demonstrate efficacy against a different human coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
